Individual Support Sessions

I work one-on-one with individuals to explore the deeper meaning embedded within experience. Our conversations can take many forms (see below). To schedule a session, please contact me for a free 10-minute consultation so we can discuss what you are looking for and determine whether I'd be a good fit.

  • Grief companionship. These sessions will help you understand and process meaning from any kind of loss, be it the loss of a friend or family member, a community, or a major role/phase of your life. Our conversations will also help you understand grief itself: its purpose, its forms, and its particular topography for you. Taking the time to understand grief and properly mourn breathes new direction and possibilities into our lives.

  • Support through the dying process. These sessions are for individuals with a terminal illness who are looking for support through the transitional phase we call "death." Sometimes, it helps to discuss what we are experiencing with someone we do not have to worry about protecting (often, this is someone other than a friend or family member). Our conversations may involve reflecting on your life; discovering how you make meaning of death; exploring feelings of fear; understanding what the dying process is like for you; processing and resolving difficult emotions; and developing a toolkit of practices or a "spiritual plan" for the journey.

  • Generalized spiritual investigation and discovery. These sessions are designed to support you in accessing your deeper longings and ways of making meaning. Perhaps you are at a moment in your life when you feel it might be helpful to examine the arch of experience you've had to date and its meaning for you. Or, perhaps you'd like to explore particular experiences or events, and have guidance and support as you process the pain or significance of those experiences. Here, we'll work on recognizing emotional patterns and the places that feel "stuck," while also carefully watering any budding insights regarding what feels true and important for you. 

  • Meditation instruction and coaching. These sessions are for those interested in cultivating or deepening a spiritual practice. I can help you navigate shamatha and vipashyana meditation (in both their basic and more subtle forms), devotional practices, contemplation, visualization, and ritualization of emotional processing. We will explore how you can best maintain and structure a practice, and also examine (with gentleness and self-compassion) what obstacles you encounter. Meditation instruction and coaching can be the focus of our sessions, or can be woven into any other type of session.

  • Discovering the Sacred Feminine. Discovering the sacred feminine begins with a practice of understanding the ways in which we internalize patriarchal assumptions; the ways in which we overemphasize the male principle within us; and the ways in which we react to fear of the unknown. In becoming intimately acquainted with our habituated responses to the unknown, we also become acquainted with the potentiality it holds. These sessions will help you become honest with the ways in which you resist or grasp tightly onto life's ebbs and flows, and the ways in which you find certain parts of yourself more "worthy" than others. We will seek to challenge long-held beliefs about how we think things are to discover more space, more comfort with the unknown, and more imaginative and open-hearted possibilities.

  • Examining Internalized Racism. I work with people to examine the ways in which systemic racism has (often, without our awareness) penetrated, imprinted, and affected our hearts and minds. Systemic racism refers to the legal and institutional systems of power that together create advantages for those perceived as "white" to the detriment of people of color. The effects of this system are all around us, and we cannot help but be immersed in it if we live in the United States. Often, our racial bias is implicit, and not readily known by the conscious mind. By using meditation techniques - including mindfulness and somatic practices - we can shine the light of awareness on the thoughts, perceptions, beliefs, images, and sensations in the body that come up in response to the subtle and overt racial realities we all are surrounded by. I provide a space that is gentle and welcoming, that encourages curiosity and questions, and that holds the entire exploration as a practice, not a one-time event. This is about bringing what was previously unconscious to the light of awareness so that we step away from defensiveness and reactivity and move towards just and loving action.

My rate is $85 per hour-long session.* I'm happy to meet every week, every other week, or every month as it fits your needs and budget. Sessions are held via Zoom video conferencing.
